Your MailingPlatform account is protected by an email address and a password. This article covers the two things people get stuck on: confirming a new account before the first sign-in, and getting back in when the password is gone.
Confirming your email before the first sign-in
When you create an account we send a confirmation link to the address you signed up with. You cannot sign in until you click it. This is deliberate: it proves the address belongs to you before the account can send anything.
If the email has not arrived:
- Check the spam folder. The sender is MailingPlatform (hello@mailingplatform.net).
- On the sign-in page, use Resend confirmation email on the "Check your inbox" screen.
- Make sure the address has no typo. If it does, start over with the right one - the wrong address will never be confirmable.
The confirmation link is valid for 48 hours. Requesting a new one invalidates the previous link.
Resetting a forgotten password
- Go to the sign-in page and click Forgot your password?
- Enter the email address on the account and click Send reset link.
- Open the email from MailingPlatform and click Choose a new password.
- Enter the new password twice and click Update password.
- Sign in with the new password.
A few things worth knowing about the link:
- It expires after one hour and works only once. If you request another link, any earlier one stops working immediately.
- The new password must be at least 8 characters and cannot be the password you are already using.
- Changing the password signs the account out on every device, including any session someone else might have had. You will need to sign in again on your phone, second browser and so on.
- We send a short "your password was changed" email afterwards. If that email arrives and it was not you, reset the password again straight away and contact us at hello@mailingplatform.net.
"If an account exists, we sent a link"
The reset page always shows the same message, whether or not there is an account on that address. That is intentional: if the wording changed depending on the answer, anyone could use the form to find out which email addresses have accounts here.
So if no email arrives, the likely reasons are:
- The address has no account. Try the other address you might have used, or create an account.
- The account was never confirmed. In that case we send the confirmation email instead, because a reset link must not double as email confirmation. Click that link first, then sign in normally.
- You have requested several links in a short time. Requests are limited to three per address per 15 minutes.
Changing your password when you are signed in
There is no separate change-password screen yet. If you know your current password and want a new one, sign out and use Forgot your password? - the flow is the same and takes under a minute.
Two-factor authentication
Not available yet. It is on the roadmap; today the account is protected by the password plus the email confirmation requirement.
Still locked out
If the address on the account no longer exists (an old work address, for example), the self-service flow cannot help, because every route back into the account goes through that mailbox. Write to hello@mailingplatform.net from any address, tell us the account's email and company name, and we will verify ownership another way.
