Connecting Shopify unlocks the e-commerce triggers (cart abandoned, orders, back in stock, customer created), product sync for template previews and recommendations, on-site tracking and unique per-recipient coupons.
Connect with the MailingPlatform app (recommended)
The Shopify app sets everything up in one click - webhooks, product sync, coupon API and on-site tracking - with no copy-pasting of URLs or secrets:
- Go to Integrations, choose to add an integration and pick Shopify
- Enter your shop domain (
your-store.myshopify.com) - Click Connect Shopify - you are sent to Shopify to review and approve the app
- After approving, you land back in MailingPlatform. Webhooks are registered, the coupon API is enabled, the tracking pixel is activated and your product catalog starts importing automatically
The integration shows "App connected" when everything is in place. If you uninstall the app in Shopify, the connection is deactivated automatically and the access token is deleted.
Already connected a store manually? Open the integration and use Connect Shopify app to upgrade. Your event history is kept.
Installing from the Shopify side
You can also start from Shopify instead of from MailingPlatform. When you install the MailingPlatform app on your store (for example from the Shopify App Store), the app opens inside your Shopify admin and shows One step left:
- Click Connect your account - a new tab opens on MailingPlatform
- Log in, or create an account if you are new - the store attaches to your account automatically
- The page inside Shopify updates to "Your store is connected" within seconds
Everything else is identical: webhooks, product sync, tracking and the coupon API are set up for you.
Manual setup (alternative)
If you prefer not to install the app, you can wire everything up by hand.
1. Set up webhooks
Store events reach MailingPlatform through Shopify webhooks:
- Copy the webhook URL shown in the integration
- In Shopify admin, go to Settings, Notifications, Webhooks and create a webhook for each event listed in the integration:
- Checkouts: checkout creation, checkout update
- Orders: order creation, order fulfillment, order cancellation
- Customers: customer creation, customer update, customer marketing consent
- Products: product creation/update/delete, inventory level update
- At the bottom of Shopify's webhooks page, copy the signing secret and paste it into the integration - this lets the platform verify that events genuinely come from your store
Incoming events appear in the integration's event log, so you can confirm the connection works.
2. Enable the coupon API (optional but recommended)
For unique store coupons, the platform needs API access to create discount codes:
- In Shopify admin, go to Settings, Apps and sales channels, Develop apps and create an app
- Give it the
read_discountsandwrite_discountsscopes - Install the app and copy the Admin API access token into the integration
The integration shows "Coupon API connected" when this works.
What you get
- Automation triggers: cart abandoned, order created, order fulfilled, order cancelled, customer created and back in stock - see the triggers reference
- Product sync: synced products power template previews and product loops and the AI builder's product picks
- On-site tracking (app connection): page views and product views feed the product viewed trigger and browse abandonment, without editing your theme
- Statistics: checkouts, abandoned checkouts, products and back-in-stock requests per store
Troubleshooting
- No events arriving: with the app, check that the integration shows "Webhooks active" and use Reconnect if not. With manual setup, check the webhook URL and that the signing secret matches
- Events marked failed: failed enrollments retry automatically for 48 hours
- No products in previews: run a manual sync from the integration's Products tab, or update a product in the store to trigger one
